Looking in the wrong place

Caravaggio fled to Malta in 1606 looking for sanctity under the Knights of Malta after committing murder. Though after another brawl in which a knight was seriously wounded the painter was imprisoned shortly before the unveiling of his masterpiece. Under the cover of darkness he escaped the cave-like cell within the fort he was held captive and fled to Sicily.

Instead of going to St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta to experience first hand his seminal painting The beheading of St John the baptist, I went for a walk in the Maltese hills looking for the artist within the landscape.
